On March 5, 2007, Red Hat and Exadel announced a strategic partnership to open source and bring Exadel's Ajax4jsf, RichFaces, and Studio Pro products to JBoss as JBoss Ajax4jsf, JBoss RichFaces, and Red Hat Developer Studio, respectively. Exadel's open sourcing of Studio Pro as Red Hat Developer Studio marks the first time that a powerful, Eclipse-based IDE will be completely available in open source.
As part of the process of creating the Red Hat Developer Studio project, Red Hat will also be merging the JBoss IDE project and additional Red Hat Eclipse plugins into Red Hat Developer Studio. This means that Red Hat Developer Studio will be Red Hat's consolidated focus for Eclipse-based development tools going forward.
Red Hat expects to complete the open sourcing of Red Hat Developer Studio around Summer 2007 and is looking to use a GPL-based license.
Red Hat Developer Studio is a set of plug-ins for the Eclipse IDE. It extends the Eclipse platform to be an advanced enterprise-level Web application development environment for leveraging open source, JEE, and AJAX technologies. By combining visual and source-oriented development approaches with support for multiple open source technologies, including JSF, Hibernate, Seam, MyFaces, Spring, and others, Red Hat Developer Studio enables developers to work easily with many different technologies all within one environment. Red Hat Developer Studio provides an extensive collection of specialized wizards, editors, and views???all of which have been constantly expanding to meet the needs of enterprise developers to keep pace with rapidly changing business environments and technologies.
